Hi Atlassian Community,
Big news for everyone who's been using Rovo Desktop to tackle complex tasks: in an upcoming update, Max mode will be going away, and in its place Work mode will be introduced!
What's changing?
Work mode is Rovo's new way to take on complex, multi-step work, and we introduced it at Team '26 Europe. You start with a goal, Rovo proposes a plan, you shape it, and then Rovo gets to work across Jira, Confluence, and your connected tools, all in a secure sandbox your admins govern.
With this upcoming update, Max mode retires from Rovo Desktop with Work mode taking its place shortly after that. This is the same Work mode you'll find across Rovo, with no separate Rovo Dev subscription needed. Just pick Work from the reasoning options in the prompt box.
Note: Work mode will be introduced gradually, so don’t worry if you don’t see it immediately!
What happens to my Max mode skills and tasks?
Before the update lands, you'll see an alert in Max mode with a one-click option to export your skills and past tasks to a local folder. You can then reference the skills, workspaces, and sessions contained in this folder with another agent of your choice. Missed the alert? The same option for exporting your data will be in Settings after the update.
What about local tools?
Work mode doesn't have all of Max mode's local tools yet, like working directly with files on your computer. We know those were a big part of what made Max mode special, and we haven't forgotten them! We're working on something new to bring a lot of that local power back to Rovo Desktop. Stay tuned to learn more 👀
