Why doesn't my board switch back when I close out a linked card?

Question

When I click on a linked card from another board and then close the card, I stay on the board the card is linked to. The linked card is native to board 1 and linked on board 2. When I open the card on board 2 it takes me to board 1. When I close the card I stay on board 1. This requires me to go into my Trello workspace to get back to board 2 that I was originally on. I thought once you closed the linked card you were supposed to be returned to the original board you were on.

It is a linked card on one of my boards, not a mirrored card. When I first started using Trello a few years ago I could open the linked card on the non-native board, make my changes to it, close it and I was returned to the board I opened it from. I took a break from Trello for a while due to a change in profession. Trello did it's "Update" while I was away and now that I'm using it again, this "change" was unexpected.

Middle/right clicking or Ctrl+click only gives me the option to edit the card, not open it in a new tab. What seems to work best is Carlos' suggestion to use the browser back button instead of closing the card.

One detail worth checking: are you opening a Link card, a Mirror card, or a link inside another card?

Trello’s documentation distinguishes these. Link cards take you to the original board, while Mirror cards in paid Workspaces let you view and edit the original card without leaving your current board. That distinction matters before treating the board switch as expected behavior.

Are you using Trello in a browser, the desktop app, or on mobile?
