How to turn off two-step verification when the system claims it's already off?

I have a free Trello account. I don't want any form of 2FA.

When I visit the website after a while away, it apparently logs me out. Then it won't let me log in without going to my email for a code. In this email, it states I don't have two-step verification enabled on my account. THIS IS IN AN EMAIL REQUIRING A TWO-STEP VERIFICATION.

W.T.F.?!?

This is so stupid, I can't even.

Please tell me there's a way to get off this unmerry-go-round of crazy.

PS: I am NOT going to set up a passkey.

First of all, welcome to community! ✨

I understand, how frustrating it becomes to overcome the 2FA prompt. Here are few steps you could follow to stop the prompt every time (w/o 2FA or passkeys):

1. Check browser cookie & privacy settings

If your browser deletes your session cookies when closed, Atlassian treats every visit as a "brand-new unknown device":

• Chrome / Edge / Firefox: Ensure "Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows" is disabled, or add an exception to allow cookies for:
  • [*.]atlassian.com
  • [*.]trello.com
• Private/ Incognito Windows: Try not to log in via Incognito mode if you want the session remembered.

2. If you are already using social sign-In (Google/ MS/ Apple SSO)

If your Trello email matches a Google, Microsoft, or Apple account:

• Click "Continue with Google" (or Apple/Microsoft) on the login screen instead of typing your email and password. When you authenticate via third-party SSO, Atlassian delegates identity trust to that provider and skips its internal email OTP verification check entirely.

3. Use the Dedicated Trello Desktop App

• If web browsers continue to purge your session tokens, installing the official Trello Desktop App (macOS / Windows) maintains long-lived persistent auth tokens in local OS storage, keeping you logged in indefinitely without frequent web session re-authentications.
