Hey Community! Elana here from the Audit log team with an update for Atlassian Guard Customers.
We know many teams rely on audit logs to support security investigations, compliance reviews, operational troubleshooting, and internal reporting. We have also heard from customers that 180 days of in-product audit log history is not always enough, especially for teams with longer review cycles or regulatory requirements.
To better support these needs, we are extending Audit log retention from 180 days to up to 1 year for eligible customers.
What does this mean?
Today, customers who need audit log history beyond the current in-product retention period often have to export logs and store them in a separate system. This can add extra operational overhead and make investigations more difficult, especially when teams need to look back across a longer period of activity.
With extended retention, eligible customers will be able to retain up to 1 year of audit log data directly in Atlassian, making it easier to:
- Investigate user and admin activity over a longer period of time
- Support compliance and audit requirements
- Reduce the need for manual exports or separate storage workflows
- Keep more historical context available in-product when reviewing activity across an organization
Who will receive 1 year retention?
Extended retention will be available for customers with Atlassian Guard Standard or Premium.
How does it work?
Starting October 1st, we will start automatically storing eligible customer logs for 1 year. Customers who do not have Guard will continue to get 6 months of retention by default.
We want to hear from you!
We would love your feedback as we continue shaping this capability. Please comment on this post or reach out to eagarwal2@atlassian.com with any feedback or questions!
