One of the great things about Trello is seeing all of your tasks at a glance. For that to happen, it needs to be easy for you to capture to-dos wherever you’re working and bring them together, in one place. That’s why we launched our Trello for Gmail app in 2017, along with several other tools to capture to-dos where they start. Since then, millions of people have downloaded it to add new Trello cards from Gmail messages. And because tasks are as likely to come from a chat as an email, we wanted to give it an upgrade and a new name: Trello for Google Workspace lets you create new cards from Gmail and Google Chat messages, too.
Already installed the Trello for Gmail app? Adding cards from Gmail hasn’t changed, and there’s no need to reinstall or authorize the app. To start creating cards from Chat, add Trello for Google Workspace to a Chat space or direct message and follow the sign-in prompt.
Add cards from Gmail
- When you open an email in Gmail, click the Trello icon in the sidebar.
- Log in to Trello, and the card creation form will pre-populate with the subject and body of the email.
- Select the board and list where you want the card to live, edit as you’d like, and you’re set! Your card will be ready for you in Trello.
Add cards from Google Chat
There are two simple ways you can create new Trello cards from Chat messages.
- In a chat, open the message menu and select “Create card from message.” The message becomes a card in your Trello Inbox, ready to act on when you are.
- Start a direct chat with the Trello for Google Workspace app, then type "add" followed by your card name. Trello for Google Workspace will confirm your card was added to your Inbox.
More ways to engage with Trello in Chat
Share a Trello board or card in Chat to get an interactive preview, so people can engage with Trello without leaving the conversation. And similar to creating new Trello cards, you can send the app commands to update your settings. Type “help” in a chat with the app to list all available commands.
On a paid Trello plan? Trello AI automatically distills your captured emails and chats into clean, concise card titles and descriptions you can edit as needed. You can edit access to AI features in the app’s settings.
