Welcome Wednesday: Favorite coffee shops!

👋 Hi Atlassian Community peeps!

The idea of third place - a place that's not your home (first place) or workplace (second place) where one spends a lot of time is true for a lot of people, including me.

My third place tends to be a cafe or coffee shop, depending on what city I'm in, and my mood!

For this week's Welcome Wednesday, my question is: Do you frequent cafes or coffee shops? Are you a regular at any of these places?

For sure! My third place is Barefoot Coffee in Campbell, CA. Excellent coffee, friendly staff, cozy and dog friendly. Bit near a big road, needs some fixing up in places. I've been going there most mornings for a few years for my cortado and side of sparkling water. Happy to buy a coffee for community people if we meet there.

I love that you brought this up, we had a quick chat about coffee during the Builders Summit in California recently. I have to be biased here and I have to mention my husband's specialty coffee shop! Located in Portland, Oregon with two locations and in Amherst, MA. It's called Futura Coffee Roasters.

Hope you can make it to the beautiful PNW soon so I can show you around.

We even hosted an ACE in one of them with the awesome @Dean Schaffer

Yes, we try to visit cafes, if not often then at least occasionally, as dates 😍 (w/o kids 🤭).

My husband and I are both coffee lovers. ☕ We enjoy exploring local cafes in our area as well as when we travel. We also like trying their different bakery items 🥐🍩

Our local favorites include: (Seattle and around)

📍Katya's Bakery - Traditional Russian-Ukranian bakery with coffee, love their cakes/pastry
📍Bequest Coffee Co - Breakfast and coffee
📍Kaffeehaus de Châtillon - Traditional Viennese coffee; not the usual modern latte or cappuccino
📍Drip Drip coffeehouse - Vietnamese coffee
📍Sidekick Coffee - All generation people visit & mostly people with laptops 😄

Our favorite local coffee shop is Stone Creek Coffee! I love that they are a B Corp and prioritize learning. My husband and I have taken classes there to learn coffee art and such.

Some time ago, we discovered a lovely little café in our city that quickly became one of our favorites. They serve excellent coffee, and it’s very welcoming for kids as well.

What makes it even more special is that it’s a K-pop themed place, and my daughter is a big fan of such music, so now it’s our go-to spot every time we go somewhere around with her 😊

The closest I've got to a third place is Copper Beech Cafe in Dulwich, it's actually in a sports club, JAGS Sports Club , that's attached to a local school, JAGS.

Although it's attached to a Sports Club it's very much a local café, and a great place to get my morning coffee when my daughter is having her swimming lesson.

What's weird is, I'm a born Berliner, have lived my whole life here and don't have a favorite coffee shop. However, in Barcelona, I do because whenever I went there for business trips (Team 24 & 25, other Atlassian events) I went to the same coffee shop.

The place is called Kafenion, the staff is extremely nice, the vibe is rustic, reminds me of Berlin, the owner was very cool too and we had a nice conversation about god and the world. They have shops around Europe, one in Amsterdam where it started I think, and one in Greece as the owner is a Greek and they finally opened a new shop there.

Gee, @Dave LIAO, thanks for pointing out how boring my life is. 😀

I've worked from home for the past 6 years, so I don't even have a second place. And during these 6 years, I think I've only even gone out for lunch on a workday 4 or 5 times, let alone taken time to go out for coffee.

When I was younger and lived in other places, I did generally have a pub where I was a regular, eating and hanging out with friends a few times a week.

Probably a different location than @Amanda Barber's usual stop, but Stone Creek Coffee has become my 'third place' as well! Before that, it was a place called Blüm Coffee Garden.

I'm also one of the few people I know that still enjoys hanging out in local libraries, although not as often as I previously did.

I'm not a person who frequently goes to cafes or coffee shops. And that's mainly due to balkan mentality, which is to sit and drink coffee for hours... I was in a restaurant in Amsterdam yesterday with some friends from Croatia, and we noticed how everyone sits, dines, and leaves, while we were there for more than 3 hours 😅
The same goes for cafes, and I just cannot afford to spend that much time often...

On the other hand, I have a couple of friends from my old company and a regular cafe/brewery spot where we go to grab a couple of drinks 🍻 (would recommend if you ever come to Zagreb)

Oh I only saw this reply now and yes! I love to see good equipment, it definitely helps making better quality stuff, especially coffee! They're taking good care of it all it seems.
