Unsure how to use the API password with sourcetree

Question

Hi all first time posting.

I am having an issue where I have a repo where I can pull from, but I am not able to push back into and make edits for some reason. I have basically tracked the issue down that I am not set up with API as I was using the OAuth through sourcetree and that was working, but now I get a fatal error when I try and push my project.

Has anyone had this issue before? I am also not very antiquated with the terminal at all I just use the sourcetree UI.

I also can't seem to get any API tokens to register at all. I am sure this is a massive user error but this has really impacted my project and I am unsure how to proceed.

Thank you, I didn't have the option to authenticate with an API token in the dropdown menu, only Basic or OAuth. But I solved the problem, and it turned out to be incredibly simple: I just updated Sourcetree, and... voilà! It appeared, hmm...

(version 4.2.4 -> 4.2.16 in my case)

Hey @Marianna Patrusova ,

I'm on Windows but this might help - in Sourcetree navigate to Options > Authentication and start adding new auth.

If you're authenticating with Bitbucket, select these:

When creating new API token in https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens, select Create API token with scopes and then you can select all options/scopes.

This worked for me, but again, I don't have Mac to test it out there.

Hi Toby! I'm running into the same issue (I'm using Basic Authentication in Sourcetree). I created an API token with scopes, but I can't log in following the instructions because I get the message "Please enter your Bitbucket/GitHub username and not your email address." If I enter my username, I get the message "We couldn't connect to Bitbucket with your ([username]) credentials. Сheck your username and try the password again." I'm on a Mac OS.
