Feel Good Friday - Favorite Games!

Amanda Barber

Happy Friday, Community!

This week, we celebrated an important milestone on my team and had a little virtual lunch/game time. I introduced my team to one of my favorite online games - Code Names. In this case, the game is amazing both online and as a physical, in-person game; but I love the online game for teaching people how to play!

This got me wondering - what are your favorite games?

Virtual or in-person, cards or dice - let's hear them all!

Happy Friday! 🎉

I’m a big fan of card games, nothing beats the nostalgia of playing Rummy with my mom and grandmother. It used to get competitive (in the most loving way, of course 😄). Those games were full of laughter, snacks, and a whole lot of “Are you sure that’s a valid set?” moments!

Definitely brings back some great memories. 💛
Looking forward to hearing everyone else’s faves-maybe I’ll find a new one to bring to my next game night! 🃏🎲

Oh, this is a hard one! I've played so many games (especially since I worked in the video game industry for over a decade). I like to joke that Mario Kart DS is my favorite fighting game. City of Heroes is still my favorite MMO, even though it was shut down over 10 years ago (I know there's a free version that fans have resurrected, but I haven't found quite the same magic in it). My favorite retro game is the Bubble Bobble (released on the NES). I spent hours with that one when I was a kid!

As for current games, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was incredible--gameplay, graphics, storytelling, from start to finish, a masterpiece. It's not a "light" game, though; it tackles mental health and grief in profound ways, and I was a sobbing wreck at the end. Truly, masterfully done!

On Wednesdays, I play Dungeons & Dragons with friends. We use Roll20 and Discord, since we're all located either up and down the California coast, plus me here in Houston, TX. We have a fantastic dungeon master who came up with a really fun homebrew campaign!

Cards Against Humanity (NSFW, so not providing a link)

I can't say I have played much real games in the last 10-15 years from before I had kids and too little time :-p

Back in the day I was all in to the good old Classics like Counterstrike (1.6 beta anyone?) and all it's spinoffs.

These days (besides the odd mobile game thrown in) I do have a few card games that I like to play like Uno with the kids and Phase 10 to get a little more competitive!

Those 3 are among my daughter's favourites (the junior versions of Carcassonne and Ticket tor Ride), so we play those regularly along with Game of Life.

John Funk

I like most traditional card games - Hearts, Spades, Rummy, etc.

Also, Settlers of Catan, Pictionary, Balderdash, Telestrations and several of the others already mentioned.

Our friends introduced us to Uno Attack - the kids LOVED it. :-D

Adding a few more of our family (14 year old and 10 year old kids) favorites:

Sleeping Queens (we all enjoy this one)

Dungeon Mayhem (we all enjoy this one)

Cahoots (my 14yo and I love this one!)

Card Games:

Speed

Garbage

Scrabble, Upwords, Bananagrams and Quirkle (the color blind edition) are UK family favourites

Computer games for me were the original Wizardry (Apple II), Sim City (original) and various goofy "candy" games on my phone for a while.

Right now, games consist of things like "Dishwasher Chicken" where my wife and I see who's going to crack first and unload the clean dishwasher!

I think we're seeing some sort of age gap, with people who think video game and those who think board game. 😀

We grew up playing all sorts of board games, especially when the snow was outside. Now we play in person when people are visiting, even when there's an online component:

Qwixx
Blank Slate
Outsmarted!

We used to do a weekly board game night for many years. Ticket to Ride was one of our go-tos.

I prefer board games, and some time ago I dove into Catan - the basic and add-ons ❤️

When it comes to games that you can play online with your colleagues, I recommend Geoguessr, for example, as a brain warm-up before some brainstorming😄Besides being a lot of fun, the game is also educational, especially for geography, but it also trains you to think under time pressure⏱️😅

Great suggestion, thank you, @Weronika Hałdaś_Deviniti_!

Great topic @Amanda Barber , btw, Sleeping Queens is my daughthers favourite game

I’m a big fan of board games! My family and I often spend chilly evenings (usually it's in winter) gathered around the table playing together. One of our all-time favorites is Monopoly. I remember once we even played a single game for over 8 hours without realizing how fast the time flew by

Oh, I remember Sleeping Queens!

My favorite game for lifting my spirits is Stardew Valley. It helps me relax after work, and playing cooperatively with friends makes the experience even warmer and more enjoyable. I like how simple daily tasks in the game create a steady rhythm and calm mood. Farming, fishing, and talking to villagers feel peaceful and rewarding. Sometimes I also read about other types of games and digital entertainment. I came across information about different casіno spellen, where various classic and modern formats are explained in a clear way. It was interesting to see how the mechanics differ from life simulation games. Even though the themes are not the same, many games rely on similar progression systems and player engagement elements.
