Page location of newly created pages > "based on field value" -- does not work

I try to follow what's being documented in https://intercom.help/confluencedatabases/en/articles/7336691-page-link

There is an explanation that I can have a 2nd page link field in my database and that a newly to be created page then will have the selected value in this second field as parent page. Is this a right interpretation?

This does not work at all for me. All pages are located under the default value page, even if I choose another one in that 2nd field.
