Text field on card? Similar to Description on card.

Question

Can I have another free-text field similar to the "card description" field on a card.

I just want to add text and not make it blend in with all the other things that happen on the card at the bottom. I want to be able to put a text field on the card.

I don't understand the value of custom fields when you can't customize anything about them!! The notes field does what? show a little bit of text to do what? It is useless to me, I just want a regular text field.

The text custom field type can hold quite a bit of text, as you've noticed, but there isn't a way to change the amount of text that is displayed there.

If that's critical for your workflow, then I think what I would do is use formatting in the description area. Something like this:

The downside there is you wouldn't be able to reference the specific text unless you surrounded it by easily identifiable wildcards. In the example above, I used SecondaryText and EndSecondaryText.

If you wanted to do that, it would mean you could use a rule like this to parse out that secondary text using automation. If you don't need that ability, then you can call that section whatever you like!

Here's the automation example:

which brings me to the next issue, how the notes/text field works. I have not been able to make it show any more than a couple of words, I'm not sure what it can be used for other than keywords. What am I missing here?

I just want to paste extra info on the card without it being a comment that gets lost in the log

Hey Thorlaug! Right now, that feature isn’t available within Trello. I’ll pass your interest in this on to our team for consideration—let me know if there's any additional info you'd like for me to send their way.

Not entirely ideal, based on your requirements, but the best option to add secondary fields for text would be custom fields. Though they don't work in quite the same way as the description, they would be a way to add extra text to a card in a different position.
