How to backup JPD data?

Ok JPD team, you've made a great product that's been very successfully used and adopted at our company. And as you're coming out of beta, it's time to solve big kid (as opposed to infancy) problems. How can I currently backup my JPD data, in a way that could be restored in case of some major outage/failure?

Happy to have it be a complete hack for now, until you can provide more official support like in other jira projects.

Any script examples you can share, or other methods, so we're not at risk of permanently losing data?

Hi Pete!

Back up/restore feature is currenly a Known limitation of Jira Product Discovery.

The current self-back up feature from Jira will work to export, but you'll be able only to restore it on the same site. That's why we do not recommend to rely on the back up feature for the moment.

The best export method you'd have a the moment is to export via .csv, that you might be able to automate using cron task.

As we know that for the moment, we do not offer satisfying resistance plans, in the case of important data deletion on your side, we could restore data upon request and within the data retention period.

You highlight a very important need for data protection of Atlassian data in the enterprise.

The use cases I have seen come up include: (in the order of high to low probability of occurrence)

- Human error (Accidental deletion)

- Script / third party app error

- Malicious Insider

- Malicious Outsider (I am sure you have seen the Envoy hack of Atlassian data in the news this week - credential theft etc..)

- data center outage

I call the above out for selfish reasons - As those are the reasons why we started Revyz and I have enterprise customers using the Revyz Jira Backup & Recovery App

As of today we support all types of projects (JSW, JSM, JPD, & JWM). Our specialty is in granular data recovery. Most of the times it is small pieces of data that customers typically loose frequently in the cloud / SaaS environments and thats what we have tried to optimize our app for.

I do have the additional JPD objects in our roadmap to backup up and restore.

I met with @Tanguy Crusson at the recent event and chatted about this need for enterprise customers!

BTW - @[deleted]- While the current positioning of what we have built is related to backup & restore (we will change that soon), our app addresses many more use cases beyond backup & restore which Atlassian administrators find useful to use on a daily basis.

On a lighter note @Tanguy Crusson - I have not met with @[deleted]before :-) and I am super excited that enterprise teams / customers are asking about backup & restore!

Also excited for JPD going out of beta as we use it a lot for our ideas and insights!

Here at Rewind, we backup JPD ideas (which are issues) and projects. It’s a part of our Jira Backups package which also include Jira, Jira Service Management and Jira Work Management and is included in the price.
