Post URL to the Build Summary Screen

Question

I am looking to have Bamboo execute Selenium tests in a Docker container, which can be accessed via the Build Summary screen of the build.

Is there a way to have variables displayed on the summary screens, or any of the tabs really. This value will change for each build as it is starting up a new docker container on the fly. The URL needs to be visible/retrievable while the build is running. It is useless once the job actually finishes.

Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Unfortunately there does not seem to be a built-in user-facing way "to have variables displayed on the summary screens, or any of the tabs".  That leaves two alternatives:

Bamboo build log

Resolved variables are highlighted in the Bamboo build log, so provided you know what you are looking for, don't mind the additional clicks, and are willing to search through the unsorted list of potentially dozens of variables, this might be all you need - granted, the UX for this approach is terrible.

Custom app

It is possible to build an app to extend the summary screen, but please note that implementing and maintaining Bamboo apps is not for the faint of heart in general. That being said, your particular ask might be fairly straight forward conceptually:

Provided you have implemented a skeleton Bamboo app (see e.g. Getting started), you 'just' need to implement a Web Panel module with an applicable location, e.g. chainresult.summary:

Renders below the 'Write a Comment' box at the bottom of the Plan Result Summary page

You could start from one of the Web Panel example fragments and then extend the code to display the desired URL at runtime.

You can see this in action in Eddie Webb's cool Pipeline Flow for Bamboo app, which seems to leverage both chainresult.summary and chainresult.summary.right to visualize the build pipeline flow and a table with information from related deployment projects, and both seem to be properly refreshed while the build is running:
