why did I lose access to my boards in Trello?

It sounds to me like you are trying with more than 1 login account to access Trello.
In majority of the scenario's, multiple login credentials will be the cause for boards not displaying. If that is not the case, then I would request you to share your error screen shot with https://trello.com/contact team.
