Enforce or set passwords for users

Hi there

We are looking to move away from G Suite integration soon. I was looking for this and could not find anything specific. I did look at the Password management under Security settings though but that does not help much in terms of this.

What I am looking for is … Can we set the password for all of our Atlassian users (currently managed from G Suite), as opposed to have the users reset it, and then we can share that with them using our password manager?

We can disconnect G Suite but would like to understand the full process and set the expecatation for staff as well.

Hi Yatish,

The process of setting passwords first-time for Atlassian accounts involves email access. A link is sent to the email of the user which lets them verify their email address (by clicking the link) and set a password for their account.

By claiming your domain in Atlassian Cloud (you may have already done this), you can set a basic password policy that enforces a level of password strength you select for all users. By subscribing to Atlassian Access, you can enforce additional authentication policies such as multifactor authentication, password rotation, and session duration.

If you would like to set passwords in advance (instead of letting users chose their own passwords based on requirements you set), then you'll need to do so in a separate directory that you use as a SAML identity provider . G Suite is one such identity provider, others such as Okta, ADFS, Azure AD, etc could be used for this as well.
