Hi, I am intending to use Trello to mange the workflow through an internal creative studio. I haVe set up the board and workflow with various butler automations. However if any member edits the lists or labels it will break all the automations.
can I stop members from being able to edit labels and lists?

@Andrew Warren your post prompted me to run some test on labels. It appears that label changes will reflect correctly on cards using that label but not for Butler command as you have so expressed.

In a Learning Portal app I developed, a check is triggered every day to for changes to the List name and where possible I would use the list id instead.

Similarly for labels, there is a updateLabel action which you can set a webhook to report or reverse the action. For a webhook to work you need an endpoint with a module to respond to the change on the board. For this use case, the webhook will be watching for all board changes looking out for updateLabel amongst all the user events in the day.

Alternatively, use Butler calendar to trigger via Http Request for a backend module to do a check for you.

If this is mission critical, above are some of ways I would use to solve the problem.

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. Unfortunately, your answer is a little beyond my understanding. I don't know how to do what you have suggested or fully understand the terminology. Check, webhook, backend module?

I think you are saying there may be a way to automatically check for changes to a list or label and possibly reverse this action?

A little more information.

I have several automations set through butler that trigger a move card to list when a certain label is applied. Butler automatically records the name and colour of that label. If one of the members changes the name, colour or deletes a label it ruins that automation and the flow of the board.

I will have up to 30 people using this board to add cards/jobs.

Whilst I wish for them to add cards/jobs to the list and make certain edits to content. I don't want them to be able to edit the lists or labels. This will affect the workflow I have set up for the board.

That's why I thought it would be good if I could stop them from being able to edit the labels and lists altogether. I think I maybe I am trying to use the Trello board for something it was not designed to do.

@Andrew Warren To the best of my knowledge I have not come across anything that suggest such restrictions are available.
I would recommend that you think through worst case scenario and how you can recover from it. That will inform you how much preventive measures you want to put in code.

Based on my reply to @Stephen Addis it seems that Business Class does allow for you to restrict Board settings which will take card of labels. I suspect that List names are not under that category.

Also note that some of the options do have some cost depending on what resources are available to you. I am currently on 'free' Gold and the platform I worked on currently does not have a charge (yet).

Without paying for the business grades, no.

Easiest way is tell them ... YOU TOUCH IT, YOUR FIRED and with the money I save on your salary we can get business grade.

People have to respect if its not them running the board, and somebody is in it full time managing, they are invitees and should keep to the task in hand.

Its the same as because they have done something them move it over to done .... then the coordinator misses it as they didn't move it over themselves and register it in their mind as part of the process.

I'm pretty simple ...
MY BOARD - MY RUNES - OTHERS ARE INVITEES - WANNA STAY AT THE PARTY - BEHAVE.

Permissions is one of my big things ... also, personally I dont think people should be able to edit or delete comments, as in if they say something like ... sure, you do that change and I will pay the costs ... then delete, umm, where was that instruction when they dispute the invoice.

@Stephen Addis I am not aware that there are additional intra board permissions of this nature with business class. I need to check this out.

Should have investigated "Normal" for setting changes while I had a trial.

Though I tend to operate a "my board, my rules, want to retain rights to view, adhere" policy.

Then tell them that they will be contra-charged the cost if we need to upgrade to enable permissions because they cant behave. Money makes the mind focus.

Its all a bit black and white with me.

I do have a business account. Still, these specific permissions are not available as indicated above. Like you say @Stephen Addis I will just have to be strict. We are testing this week so let's see how I get on. Thank you
