How do I use git via sudo through Sourcetree?

I want to use git to track my httpd.conf file. However /etc/apache2/ on my system is owned by root, and I want to keep it that way. If I use git from the command line, I can just sudo git ... to do whatever I need. However Sourcetree just throws a "permission denied" error instead of authenticating me. How do I authenticate? If there's no way to do it then please fix this! (OS X 10.11)

Someone may know a way you can use SourceTree the way you need (I don't, I'm a Windows user). However, if you don't get a useful answer, you might try posting a feature request on jira.atlassian.com, which is the best way to get Atlassian to modify the product. If you do so, please post a link here as an answer so others with the same problem can vote your feature request up.
