Sync Trello card numbers across team boards

My team uses Trello to keep track of projects as they move from one stage of production to the next. I recently added the card number power-up so that we could start identifying each card by its unique number. We now treat that built-in number as the PO# for the job when we are communicating with our clients.

This was a huge breakthrough --UNTIL I realized the card numbers are unique to each board. Say I have an 'in-progress board' with card #5555, and it gets moved to the 'completed board', the number reverts to #5550 or whatever was last counted on that board. Not so helpful anymore.

Is there a way to sync the numbering system across team boards? Because of the volume of new cards we are making every day, keeping the 'in-progress' and 'completed' sections as lists on the same board is not an option. I had it like this in months past and the board would repeatedly crash.

Perhaps there is an outside the box solution someone reccomends?

@Kendell Harbin why not use the card's ID as the order number instead. For example in Butler:

when a card is added to the board, set the card's description to "{triggercardid}"

Instead of setting the description you could set a custom field value, which can then be used to display the ID on the front of the card.

Ah! Brilliant.

You know, for my purposes using the card number (ex: 12345) is more client-friendly than the card ID (ex: Xnf7Hy). Regardless, by forgetting the card number power-up and switching to have Butler set the card title to "{triggercardnumber} - {cardname}" it effectively creates a static number I can reference as the order number. Moving it from board to board, the actual card number might be changing, but the effective card number in the title stays the same. Win!
