Automation to paste in description from another card?

Question

Trying to set up an automation that would create a new card (when keywords are typed into a checklist) that would also include a description grabbed from a template card.

I know you can include a description in the automation, but it's more flexible for coworkers to be able to edit the template instead of going into the automations.

I'm thinking there is a way to do this thru the automation variables, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how they all work. 😅

ah, i already knew i could include a card description. Was hoping to be able to pull it from another card.

oh well. guess i'll just do it that way.

Hi Bob,

No problem!

Would this rule work?

* when an item containing "trigger word" is added to checklist {checklistname}, convert the item to a linked card, and set the card's description to [card description]

In this example, you'll want to use the {checklistname} variable so the rule triggers for all checklists.

As for the card description, there isn't a way to pull that information from a specific card on the board, but you can simply add it to your rule.

I'm looking to set up an automation that would be a bit like this:

when [trigger word] is added to [specific checklist], create a new card, linked in checklist. Add description to new card, copied from [specific other card].

That "specific other card" being one that i have saved elsewhere as a template.
