The Jira Cloud for Microsoft Teams app now understands natural language. Your team can now create, update, and assign work to teammates or AI coding agents without leaving the chat.

How to get started

Requirements

Make sure you have:

Follow these steps on how to get started.

Already using the app? No need to install anything new. Just @JIRA in your channel or chat.

How it works

  1. @ mention Jira ("@Jira") in your Teams channel or chat. If the app hasn't been added yet, follow the prompt to invite it to your channel.

  2. On first use, select your Jira site and desired space.

  3. Then, @JIRA and describe what you need in plain language. You can tell it to create or update work items including labels, priority, and more, or assign work. The output will be a completed work item with populated fields and an editable card in the thread.

You can change your settings at any time, by typing /jira agent in the channel to update your site, space, or add a custom instruction.

Example prompts to get started:

  • A status change decided in standup: @JIRA, move XXX-XXX to In Review

  • Hand a task to a coding agent: @JIRA, assign this task to Jira Coding Agent

  • A feature request surfaces in a channel: @JIRA, create a work item for this and mark it as high priority

Give it a try and let us know what you think. Drop a comment below.

I just tried this and really love how convenient it is... to be in the middle of a conversation or discuss thread with my team and ask Jira, in plain terms, to create a backlog item or to update an assignment... very cool!  I am struggling a bit on how to roll this out to my users without confusing them too much on the initial setup... but the setup process was fairly easy.  More to come on usage, but I think it's a great feature add!
