Update idea when delivery is done

Has anyone figured out a good way to handle an idea when connected delivery items are completed? Maybe some form of automation that transitions the idea to a completed state when the connected delivery items are done?

I guess you always could handle it manually but someone mby has figured out a really nice process

Hello, the solution described by Stephen is correct, just so you know, you have templates in global automation to do this : https://support.atlassian.com/jira-product-discovery/docs/manage-automation-templates/

Now, if you don't use the workflow/status field in Jira Product Discovery, you can simply use the rule "Edit field" and edit the field you'd like to change when your delivery items are done.

Also would be nice to see what other common automations the community is using for delivery tickets, and status of ideas.

Not sure who the community manager is, but i think it would make for a great webinar or content piece, because i am also thinking about some ideas around automation but don't necessarily know what the best practice is.

This automation should do that:

Just make sure the scope of the rule includes both the delivery and product discovery projects, either as multiple projects, or as a global automation.

If there are multiple delivery items for an idea you'll have to put some logic in to check that all delivery items are Done / rejected

This relies on the workflow in JPD allowing any status to transition to Done, either in all cases, or via a Condition in the workflow which allows automations to transition to Done

You could comment w/tag Creator name stating delivery is complete, thus allowing the owner of item to make applicable updates vs. changing status.

I'm thinking that when you see the delivery items being completed is a good time reflect on whether the outcome you were hoping for with this idea has actually been achieved. Maybe you need more delivery items? Or pursue another idea? Anyway, I would not equate "delivery items completed" with "goal of idea achieved". Just my two cents.

Good point Mikael. We transition our ideas into the status "impact check" after the first delivery and review these ideas and their outcomes.

That status transition could be done via automation.
