🖼️ Card Covers Now Live in Jira Product Discovery!

Hello Atlassian Community!

Ever wished your board of ideas felt less like a spreadsheet and more like a moodboard? We're excited to announce that card covers are now available in board view in Jira Product Discovery. You can personalise idea cards with images or colours, making boards more visual, easier to scan, and a bit more delightful to work with.

Why this matters:

Boards are often where teams quickly review ideas, spot patterns, and decide what to focus on next. Card covers make that experience more visual by helping ideas stand out at a glance, whether you want to highlight a concept with an image, bring more context to a card, or simply make your board easier to navigate.

What’s new?

  • Add a cover to ideas in board view, including regular boards, roadmap boards, published board views

  • Choose from multiple cover types: a solid colour, a gradient, an Unsplash image, or an uploaded image attachment

  • Show or hide covers depending on how you want your board to look

  • Manage card covers through board layout settings

  • Control card cover visibility in published view settings, so your shared views look exactly the way you want

How to use it:

  1. Open a board view in Jira Product Discovery.

  2. Go to board layout settings to control whether covers are shown on the board.

  3. Open an idea card and select a cover from the context menu, choose a colour, gradient, Unsplash image, or one of your uploaded image attachments.

  4. If you use Published views, toggle card covers on or off in the published view settings to customise what external viewers see.

  5. Browse your board and use the richer visual layout to scan ideas more easily.

Where do card covers appear?

Whether you're browsing ideas on your own board, sharing a published view with stakeholders, or embedding a board in Confluence via a smart link, card covers will be right there with you.

Card covers are supported on:

  • Regular board views

  • Roadmap board views

  • Published board views

  • Embedded board views

In all of these, you'll see card covers displayed on ideas and a Card Covers toggle in Display settings. On boards you own, you'll also find a card cover selector in each idea card's context menu and a Card Covers toggle in Published view settings.

Who benefits?

  • Teams who use boards heavily for triage, planning, and prioritisation

  • Product managers who want ideas to be more visually recognisable

  • Teams sharing published views with stakeholders who want a polished, visual presentation

  • Anyone looking for a board experience that feels more expressive and easier to scan
