Introducing Focus Public REST APIs

We're excited to announce that starting July 3, 2026, Atlassian Focus has public REST APIs — and this is one of the most-requested capabilities from our customers since Focus went GA.

For the first time, your strategic priorities don't have to live as an island. Now you can connect strategic priorities to your financial systems and business analytics tools without manual data entry or workarounds.

Why this matters

If you've been using Focus, you've probably run into this: your strategic priorities are defined in Focus, but getting that data into your reporting dashboards or financial systems meant exporting CSVs, copying data manually, or building fragile workarounds.

That changes on July 3.

With Focus Public REST APIs you can:

  • Connect Focus to your existing tools — Power BI, Tableau, ServiceNow, Workday, SAP, MuleSoft, or any custom internal portal

  • Eliminate manual data entry — set up automated syncs so Focus always reflects your source of truth

  • Build executive dashboards — pull focus area status, owner, and target dates directly into leadership reporting

  • Migrate at scale — programmatically load entire strategic hierarchies instead of rebuilding them by hand

  • Keep financials in sync — push budget, actuals, and forecast data from your ERP directly into Focus Funds

What's available on July 3

Focus Areas API

Full create, read, update, and delete access to Focus Areas — the core strategic object in Focus. Use it to:

  • Pull your entire strategic hierarchy into any reporting or BI tool

  • Automatically create focus areas when new initiatives are approved in your governance system

  • Keep names, owners, and target dates in sync with your system of record

  • Migrate from a legacy SPM tool without rebuilding everything manually

Funds API

Connect your financial systems directly to Focus. Use it to:

  • Push budget, actual, and forecast values from SAP, Workday, Oracle, or any ERP into Focus automatically

  • Replace manual CSV uploads with a nightly automated sync

  • Pull cost and benefit data into external reporting tools for ROI tracking

  • Keep spend vs. budget visible by focus area in real time — without anyone touching a spreadsheet

Who benefits most

If you're a…

Here's what changes

BI or Reporting team

Pull Focus data directly into Power BI, Tableau, or any reporting tool — no more CSV exports

PMO or Portfolio leader

Sync Focus with your planning tools and eliminate double data entry

Enterprise IT / Integration team

Standard REST API you can plug into MuleSoft, Boomi, or any integration platform immediately

Finance team

Push ERP data (SAP, Workday, Oracle) directly into Focus Funds — no manual entry

Strategy or Planning team

Bulk-import entire strategic hierarchies programmatically — ideal for migrations and planning cycles

Marketplace partner or developer

First official extensibility point for Focus — build integrations and apps on top of a supported, versioned API

Getting started

No special enablement required. Starting July 3:

  1. Generate an API token from your Atlassian account settings — you can be making API calls within minutes

  2. Or use OAuth 2.0 if you're building an app or enterprise integration

  3. Explore the full API reference at developer.atlassian.com

The API is included with your Strategy Collection subscription at no additional cost, and it respects all your existing Focus permissions — integrations can only access what you already have access to in Focus.

What's next

This is just the beginning. We'll be expanding the API surface to cover more Focus objects over time. Have a specific integration you're hoping to build? Drop a comment below — we'd love to hear what you're planning.
