Purpose of the Development custom field?

Hi all,

I've been searching documentation about the meaning and purpose of the Development (Locked) custom field in Jira but couldn't find much information about it. The description says "Development Summary Field for Jira Software use only."

What does it exactly? Does it display the development panel on an issue? Is it useful to add it to a screen in some cases?

It is indeed the development panel.  The field is a trick to get data displayed more quickly and easily in the issues.

Strictly speaking, it could be done without a field, but it makes the coding a lot bigger, and "re-inventing a wheel".

Basically, as an admin, ignore it!
