Improvements to the Pages & Live Docs Telepointer Experience!

I’m Shivani Gakkani, a Product Manager on the Confluence Cloud team. We’re super stoked to roll out some exciting enhancements to the collaboration experience in Confluence - specifically the telepointers! All customers should see these updates by the end of June 2025. 

Note: All these changes listed below are available while editing Pages & Live Docs.

Deduplicating telepointers

Have you or a teammate ever experienced having the same page open in multiple tabs, only to notice your telepointer or your teammate’s telepointer appearing multiple times while editing? This can sometimes make documents unnecessarily busy & can give the wrong idea of how many unique teammates are actively collaborating on a page together.

We’re excited to share that we’ve deduplicated telepointers so you will only ever see one telepointer for a specific person, including yourself! No worries if you have the same page opened up in multiple tabs – we’ve made sure the editing experience is accurate in sharing where a person is actively editing & how many teammates you’re working with.

Expandable telepointers to show a person’s full name

Previously, telepointers only had a person’s first initial attached to them. But what if multiple people with the same first initial are concurrently editing a page? When this happens, it can be confusing to know which telepointer is connected to which person.

So we thought to ourselves - how can we remove this potential confusion for our editors? We’re thrilled to share an upgrade to telepointers: now hovering over an initial temporarily expands the telepointer to show a person’s full name! See below.

Have you ever tried to find where a teammate is making edits within a Page or Live Doc – and sometimes this hunt results in endless scrolling until you’ve finally found their telepointer? We’ve all been there, and it’s not fun or productive!

We’re happy to share that with just one click on an editor’s avatar in the header, you can now easily locate where their telepointer is within a document! You can only find editors (shown as ‘Editing’ as their status), and not viewers (shown as ‘Viewing’ as their status). You also cannot find editors who are inactive (labeled as "Inactive"). See below.

We hope these enhancements make the collaboration experience within Confluence a tad bit more delightful! We’d love your feedback, let us know what you think below!
