Artifact cleanup configuration

I can't seem to find any documentation on how (if at all) artifacts are cleaned up. We're planning on using stages to create deployment artifacts and I don't want them eating into server space unnecessarily.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

That's just what I'm after. For the sake of being a self contained answer, the configuration is in Administration > Plans > Build Expiry
