Hi, community!
If you use Jira, you may have seen the announcement about “issue” changing to “work item.” We’re rolling out a series of terminology changes throughout Atlassian Analytics to reflect Jira’s new terminology. The rollout will start on June 25, 2025, and finish around July 25, 2025.
We’re changing the display names (or aliases) of tables and columns in the schema that used “issue.” However, the SQL names will not change to ensure there are no breaking changes to your existing queries.
Additional notes:
We won’t make changes to the display names of your custom tables and columns.
The SQL names you see in data shares also won’t change.
Here are examples of how the display names will change:
Previous display name | New display name | SQL name |
Issue | Work item | jira_issue |
Issue field | Work item field | jira_issue_field |
Because the SQL names will stay the same, you can search for “work item” or “issue” to find the tables or columns you’re looking for when you’re creating visual mode queries.
We’re also updating the content within our dashboard and chart templates. You’ll notice changes to titles, descriptions, legends, labels, and so on.
These changes will only apply to new dashboards that are created with the updated templates. Dashboards previously created with the old version of the templates won’t be affected.
Here is an example of the dashboard template previously titled “Jira - Flow metrics (Jira issue types view),” which will be renamed to “Jira - Flow metrics (Jira work types view).”
As mentioned earlier, we’re going to roll out the terminology changes over the next month and expect to complete the rollout around July 25, 2025. Note that we’ll start with changes to the display names and then update the templates after, so you may see a mix of old and new terminology for a short period of time.
To get the updated display names in the schema, someone with permission to manage your Data Lake connection can sync the schema.
The changes to our templates will be available to any new dashboards or charts created using the updated templates.
