Frequently asked questions
What's the best way to get started?
Join our Welcome Center and introduce yourself! We promise you'll get a warm welcome.
How is content organized?
The forums consist of Q&A, Discussion Groups and Articles.
Q&A areas contain questions and answers, and also host articles from Atlassian product teams, Community Champions, and other thought leaders around the community. And if you want to be notified of new articles about that product, click the tag on the sidebar to follow it for updates (click here for step-by-step instructions).
We also have Discussion Groups, which are mini-communities where you can connect with folks with whom you share things in common. Check out our Discussion Groups here, or search for groups here.
How do I keep track of content?
There are a few easy ways to stay up to date and save what matters to you:
- Follow categories, tags, or groups: Click Follow on any category, tag, or discussion group to get notified when new discussions or articles are posted.
- Bookmark discussions: Click the Bookmark icon on any thread to save it for quick reference later. You can view all your saved threads anytime from your profile under Bookmarks.
- Manage your notifications: Head to your Profile > Edit Profile > Notification Preferences to choose how and when you receive in-app and email updates.
For a more detailed walkthrough on how to follow content, visit this post.
Can you help me with my username or email address, or community profile?
Your community identity is connected directly to your Atlassian account:
Community Profile & Preferences: To update your community bio, view bookmarks, or manage forum notifications, select your profile picture in the top-right corner and choose Profile or Edit Profile.
Username, Email & Password: Because your community login is tied to your Atlassian account, changes to your display name, email address, or password must be made in your Atlassian account settings (or through your organization's admin if your account is managed).
For a complete overview of account settings and recent forum updates, visit the What's changed? - Atlassian.
How do ranks, badges, and kudos work?
The Atlassian Community recognizes your participation and contributions through two key systems:
- Forum Ranks: Your rank reflects your ongoing engagement and helpfulness across the forums. Ranks automatically advance based on your activity, posts, and positive feedback (such as upvotes and accepted solutions).
- Kudos Programme & Badges: Milestone badges are now integrated directly into the Kudos programme. You can earn Kudos points, advance through Kudos levels, and collect badges by participating in challenge tracks (including App Expert, Community Guide, Networking Genius, and AI Expert), achieving community milestones, or receiving peer Kudos.
You can view your current rank and badges on your profile. Click your profile picture in the upper-right corner and select Profile. To check your kudos, open the Kudos tray from the kudos icon in the top navigation.

How can I find out what’s new on Atlassian Community Forums?
Look for community announcements and release notes for updates on forum features. You can also subscribe to the “community-release-notes” tag to get updates. To subscribe to a tag, click on the tag itself and choose “Follow.”
What is a Community Champion?
The most knowledgeable and enthusiastic members of the Atlassian Community Forums have the chance to become Atlassian Community Champions, an elite group of top contributors who host events, answer questions and write articles about Atlassian products and related topics. This in turn allows them to unlock perks like access to Champion-only spaces, discounts to Atlassian events, special swag, and, of course, fame and glory. Read more here.

Why is my post pending approval?
To help keep the community safe, some posts are held for review before they appear. If your post is pending approval, a moderator will review it and publish it if it meets our guidelines. There’s no need to post it again while you wait.
How do I navigate and use the new forums?
Whether you’re looking for answers, sharing knowledge, or exploring the community, here is a quick guide to help you get around and make the most of the forums:
- Find and filter what matters to you: Use the sort options at the top of your feed to switch between recent activity, top discussions, or specific categories. You can refine your view with sidebar filters and clear them anytime to reset your feed.
- Search specific spaces: Looking for something in particular? Type your query into the search bar, open advanced search, and click the Places pill to zero in on a specific group, category, or product space.
- Add rich media to your posts: Adding videos is as simple as pasting the link into the editor and hitting the spacebar! You can also upload images directly into your message with the media options.
- Follow tags: Click any tag under Popular Tags to browse related discussions, or hit Follow to get notified when new topics are posted. To see every discussion under a tag, just click the post count next to the tag name.
- Join discussion groups: Head to discussion groups to find communities that match your interests. Click Join Group to jump in, manage your notification preferences, meet other members, and start conversations.
- Ask questions and highlight top answers: Click the Ask a Question button outlined in blue on the top right of your forums page. When someone shares a helpful reply, click Yes to mark it as the Accepted Answer so others can find the solution easily. You can also sort replies so accepted answers appear right at the top.
- Engage, save, and keep things tidy: Use the action menu on any post or comment to show appreciation with an upvote, bookmark threads to your profile for quick reference later, or flag anything that looks like spam so our moderation team can take care of it.

How does the text editor work?
Our forums use a modern rich-text editor that makes it easy to format your posts without dealing with raw HTML. You can use the formatting bar to add headers, bold text, bulleted or numbered lists, code blocks, and quotes. You can also use handy markdown shortcuts (like typing # for a heading or > for a blockquote) as you write.
How do I add images, videos, or attachments?
- Videos & rich links: Simply paste a URL (like YouTube or Loom) onto a new line and press Enter or the Spacebar. The editor will automatically generate an interactive player or preview card.
- Images: Drag and drop images directly into the editor, paste them from your clipboard, or click the image icon in the toolbar.
- Files: Use the paperclip icon at the bottom of the editor to upload supported attachments.
I pasted content into the text editor, and it looks weird or things are missing. Help!
When copying text over from tools like Confluence, Google Docs, Word, or web pages, unwanted background styling can sometimes sneak in. If your formatting looks off:
- Use Paste as plain text (Cmd + Shift + V on Mac or Ctrl + Shift + V on Windows) to paste clean, unstyled text, then format it using the toolbar.
Are there other guidelines I should know?
Please review our Rules of engagement and our voice and tone guide before jumping in.
How do I report a bug with the Atlassian Community forums?
If something seems broken here in the forums (pages not loading, buttons not working, layout issues, etc.), please follow our forum-specific bug process.
