A Tale on Atlassian Certification

university.jpg

Learning Jira and Confluence every day will surely boost your skills to the next level but what do you do with all that knowledge? Do you simply just know something or do you want to take up a challenge to prove that what you know is indeed the right knowledge?

If you're looking for the next challenge, I will suggest getting yourself certified which basically confirms and acknowledges all the knowledge you've accumulated.

How do I go about certifying myself?

The interesting fact about Atlassian Certification is that it tests not just your understanding of how the product works but what are the industry standards used by various companies that attest to making Jira or Confluence what it is today and why it is being used in so many industries.

Some of the likely questions, you should ask yourself if you're still contemplating taking an Atlassian Certification?

  1. Are you seeking a new challenge or knowledge area?
  2. Do you want to add to your list of skills?
  3. Do you want to apply for a new job that the requirement deals with Atlassian suites?
  4. Are you an overachiever? (This also counts)

Whatever the reason may be, having a certification shows that you have gone through rigorous knowledge training of the product and came out successful. Atlassian Certification is by far a tough exam to take, so it's good you're prepared before taking it.

Tips

  • Before taking an Atlassian Certification, it is very vital you enroll in a prep course. This is important if you want to understand the modules and categories of questions that are likely to turn up during the exam. It gives you a better understanding of what the examiners have prepared and the standards they expect from a professional such as yourself. Never take an Atlassian Certification without going for a prep course, your chances of success can increase by 30 - 40% if you've gone through a prep course training.
  • Give yourself at least a year of using Jira product before going for a certification such as the Jira Administrator for Cloud certificate (ACP-120). If you've not used the product before and just went through a training course, your chances of success are decreased by 40%. There are many factors that happen from everyday usage of Jira that you wouldn't just know about simply because you've not been using the product. Such instances come with experience and solving problems associated with configurations.
  • Do not underestimate the questions. When you think that there is more than one answer to the same questions and the question asked to select one choice, please re-read the question to ensure that you've understood it properly. Do not simply answer without full understanding as that might cost you some marks.
  • Remember that the answers expected are industry standard/best practices across the product, so always keep that in mind when answering questions.
  • Use your time wisely. In an exam such as ACP-120 you are given 180 minutes, do not waste too much time on one particular question. If you do not have an answer, move on to the next question and revisit the question you've not answered later on. There will be an option for you to bookmark a question so you can revisit it later.

Finally, taking the Atlassian Certification provides you the ability and the confidence of being an Atlassian professional. Jira software being the #1 software development tool will only get better and for other professionals to acknowledge your proficiency in the software comes with you being certified in it.
