If I verify a domain in my organization, will there be any effect on existing users?

Karim April 15, 2020

I'm about to verify our domain and I want to make sure that doing that will not have any negative consequences for the user.  Two things I was worried about:

  1. Non-domain users will no longer be able to login
  2. Domain users will no longer be able to change their own settings.

Can someone confirm the consequences of domain verification?

FYI: I am not enabling SSO or anything.  Just verifying our domain.

Hello Karim,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

When a domain is verified, users from that domain will receive a notification informing that the admin now owns the domain.

Users that have other email addresses that are not from the verified one, will log in normally.

Also, as you are not using SSO, users from the verified domain will also login normally.

1. Non-domain users will no longer be able to log in

  • Any active user with a license will be able to log in, it won't depend on the domain.

2. Domain users will no longer be able to change their own settings.

  • That's true. When the domain is verified, the administrator will be able to change the email address and full name, for example.

For more information about what happens when a domain is verified, please check the documentation below:

Regards,
Angélica
