had an abnormal shutdown and after recovery Confluence would not start due to version mismatch between the postgres database confluence.  I read the docs on that and it clearly stated that if this problem occurs and there was no recent upgrade then remove the CONFVERSION table.  https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/confluence-will-not-start-up-because-the-build-number-in-the-home-directory-doesn-t-match-the-build-number-in-the-database-after-upgrade-376834096.html

Once I did that its start up fine, however the data is two years old.    Not only that, but Jira data that resides on that postgres server is  also old.   Tech support told me to create a new database and restore from backup.  My issues, other than not having any experience at postgres databases, is if i cant trust the database, how can i trust that the backups are good?    Seems to me that the reboot caused postgres to load and provide the wrong database.  I would like to figure out how to load the correct database.. looking for some guidance from you Atlassian Gurus.   Much thanks for your consideration and expertise.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

There's no way we can tell you whether the backups you have taken and restored are any good.  You need to talk to the people who took the backups.

The one bit we can tell you though is that if the system is running, the restored data is at least in the right shape, which implies that the backup was complete.
