Using AQL in Jira

Hi everyone,

I'm currently setting up a asset management in Jira for my company. All in all it's moving pretty smoothly but I'm failing to achieve some key points:

  1. Is there any way to show all the assets in one big list? Is there some way to use the AQL outside of a custom field? At best this would be sorted by the key, starting with the newest object.
  2. Can I build some filters anywhere? We have to check once a year which hardware was listed out, a list starting from the latest entry would be nice. (Achieved with AQL as well?)
  3. Is there any way to move a object to another category?
  4. The final question is more of a inspiring nature for me: how are you using automation linked to your assets?

Thanks in advance and best Regard
Niklas

Hi Niklas

Tried to answer before the end of the day, let me know if you have more questions?

  1.  This depends on how you have set up your Schema... For instance, I have top-level Assets and child assets under that like PC, Phones, Tablets etc.. These objects have dependence attributes given to them via the parent Object (Assets) this way Assets is the all-inclusive list and the Child groups are the break groups.
  2. Do you use a sequential asset number? there are options to search on date/time( < endOfMonth(0)) same as JQL look here https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/use-placeholders-to-replace-information-depending-on-context/
  3. Export to CSV and reimport this to the desired category
  4. I have just built our asset management system and for now, I use simple automation, when an asset is added to a service desk tick it puts a status in the "support Requested" status or looks for devices that are out of warranty and send to a manager to see what they would like to do with the asset. There are some very useful automations I would like to implement like creating new assets based on purchase orders that have been created but there is a bit of work in that.

Hope that helps some - I feel like I am very novice with this application but the product works great and I am excited by what we could do in the future with it
