User email address not visible under people profile (teams)

Adam Stuchlík November 1, 2023

Hey guys,

I recently discovered that when visiting a profile in "people" page under teams tab, I cannot see the user's email address in Jira Cloud.

On Confluence, in the same page I am able to see their email address under "contact" section. Why is this different in Jira Cloud? Is there any settings I am missing?

This is a problem because I expect my users to be able to find contact information for colleagues/external collaborators/customers if they need to.confluence vs jira cloud.png

Hi @Adam Stuchlík

Welcome to community!

For Jira you have to be an admin

I would also highly recommend speaking to your security team if your instance has external users. It maybe better to not show emails at all. Showing emails in confluence or jira can be considered a security risk. So you want to make sure you are covered there. My instance currently has it enabled but we plan to remove the emails all together due to this.

Best,

Clark

Hi @Clark Everson

thanks for the reply.

I've read the question you mention under the link before posting, but my question is a little bit different. I am a site admin so I have access to all user email addresses in the user management, that is fine.

However I also want other users to view the email address of other users when viewing their profile from within Jira (even if only from the same domain) as seen on attachments.

Hi Adam,

As that post points out, that's not possible. Only admins can do it, it isn't something that can be enabled. Atlassian removed this function from Cloud for Jira due to the security risk and their need to comply with things like SOC2, NIST etc.
