There is a big release to how you can choose email notifications in Jira.

Previously you could choose to only get emailed for when someone @ mentions you, which is extremely helpful setting so you don't get overwhelmed with TONS of emails.

Anyone figure out how to do this with the new email notifications? If not, I hope they bring it back soon!!! Best setting in Jira in my opinion.

Thanks I just found this out too!

So the solution: Uncheck all notifications, then you only get @ mentions. Not intuitive at all, but glad there is still this option.

Hi Jen! We just found this this morning as well and the documentation in app isn't explicit.  We found that you essentially get emails for direct mentions by default, even if all other activity options are UNCHECKED.  (As long as you have the "Receive email notifications for issue activity" option enabled).

Really disappointed this was rolled out with seemingly little notice.  I am now also confused why the settings are all enabled for users by default, when they previously were NOT enabled.
