Hello!

At my organization, we have been planning to upgrade from Jira Software Cloud-Standard version to Premium version. Please share any documentation that can guide me through step by step process to upgrade and also provide some insights on do's and dont's.

Also, please share your experience in implementing advanced roadmaps and custom issue type hierarchy when you upgrade to premium version.

Thanks,

Vivek

Hi @Vivek Muthusamy

You can upgrade plan levels via https://admin.atlassian.com/

  1. Select your Org (if needed)
  2. Select Billing from the top navigation bar
  3. Select the Manage hyperlink next to Jira Software
  4. On the next screen, select the Change plan button
  5. Follow the steps to try it free, before it moves to a paid model

In terms of Plans and Issue Hierarchy, the actual settings for these are relatively simple.

You do need to decide though as a business how you intend to configure them in a manner all users will be happy with - for example...

  • How many layers of hierarchy should there be?
    • Note that you cannot "skip" a hierarchical layer - issues must be connected via parent/child, so if you put in an additional layer that not everyone needs, everyone would still need to use it
  • What will you call the Epic layer?
    • You can rename this to "Feature" for example, if using a SAFe-style approach
  • What link types will be used in the Plans for dependencies?
  • How will the quarters be aligned (i.e calendar or financial year)?
  • Who will have access to create/edit plans, versus just view them?
  • ...etc

I would have these discussions upfront so you can set these standards prior to data being entered. It is more complex to change platform-wide configuration after it's already in use.

Hi, @Vivek Muthusamy. As far as I know, there is no step-by-step guide. This is because it's a very simple process:

Assuming you are the system administrator, click on the Gear at the top of the page then on Jira Configuration. Then clock on the Upgrade button and follow the steps outlined.

As I have not done it myself, I will let someone else offer tips for Advanced Plans (aka Roadmaps).

Hope this helps,

-dave
