Noob question.
When using the Jira web interface, can I move an existing comment from one task to another?
The only method I can see is to copy the comment text to the other task and then delete the original comment. That feels very clunky.

Unfortunately there isn't such a way. The only solution would be to copy/paste/delete. You can create as well a suggestion here and vote and watch the issue you created for further updates.
