Is there a way to create automations that apply to child issues and not just subtasks?

Looking to incorporate the same automations that are suggested/used for subtasks to apply to my project's child issues. The project we are creating has many layers so we need to use child issues (unless someone can introduce me to a better way).

Thank you!

Hello @Michelle Lucy

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

How do you intend to implement your "many layers"?

The built in issue hierarchy for Jira is

Epic
|-- standard level issues (i.e. Story, Bug, Task, etc.)
|-- subtask level issues

You can create additional issue types at the standard and subtask levels, but you can't add any more levels below Epic. With the Premium subscription (or third party apps) you can add levels above Epic.

Hi @Michelle Lucy and welcome!

If you choose the related issue type "Children" in the branch rule, the rule should apply to subtasks as well as child issues:

Hope this helps.
