Is Jira capable of tracking a monetary value against a project / task? ie: budget functionality

We cannot find this anywhere in Jira core, without using a plug in, is that still the case?

Jira does not do this natively, so you'll need an app to do it.  I'd recommend a look at https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=budget - there are quite a few apps that add the functionality to Jira.

I have used a few of these, mostly as an end-user though (a developer and a Jira admin, not the person actually worrying about the money), and found them to be very different.  The one that worked best for the people I was working with when it came up was Tempo Budgets (which has the advantage of working really well with Tempo products they were already using)

Hi, @LaraClaire_Braham yes, you need some plugin for that.

Probably this plug could help you somehow https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1221332/clerk-billing-invoicing-for-jira?tab=overview&hosting=cloud it is for invoicing, not budgeting, but you could create invoices with specific time filters to see the monthly/total expenses.
