I have an epic that I want to change to become an initiative so that it links into reporting and governance within our department. Currently, I can't find a way to do this. Is this correct?
Hi @Paul_Hopper welcome to the Atlassian Community!
I currently have an epic set up and stories that link into this. My local governance team have asked us to set up initiatives so that they can track the programs and their statuses.
Rather than setting up a whole new initiative, I wondered if I could just change the epic that I have already to an initiative or whether I have to just suck it up and create the initiative.
I thought that if I cloned the epic, I'd be able to amend it, but I've not had any luck with this.
Are you suggesting we create a blank initiative and link the existing epic to this?

Epic is a special issue type within Jira. As you indicate that you are on Server, it is absolutely not recommended to rename the Epic issue type as it is a special issue type within Jira Server/DC with a lot of dependencies.
In project and portfolio management, Epics normally roll-up in to higher-level Initiatives, hence my suggestion to create a custom issue type for Initiatives which may be linked to one or more Epics.

Hi I am in the exact same situation where I want to change from Epic to Initiative rather than creating new ones. This is a team of 5 and I don't think, it will impact other teams as teams have different boards. I have attached images for clarity. Please any guide on how to achieve this. I don't there is need to reinvent the wheel her by creating new Initiatives.
Thanks a lot in advance
