How to uninstall jira core without interrupting jira service desk

We have upgraded jira core from 5.2 version to jira 7.9.2 and then we have installed jira service desk and migrated all the jira core projects to jira service desk projects. We have only license for jira service desk and for jira core license has expired. The problem is users are not able to raise a ticket in jira service desk until and unless jira core to be updated with a valid license. Is there any possibility to uninstall jira core without disturbing jira service desk.

You can't uninstall Core.  Service Desk and Software require it. 

However you don't have to license Jira Core (as long as you have applied a valid Service Desk or Jira Software license).   Since you have an expired Jira Core license, you can just delete that license key from the system.

In Jira 7 you can do this by going to Gear Icon -> Applications -> Versions and Licenses.  At the bottom of this page you should see the details of the Jira Core license and a little 'trash' icon next to the license key.  Click that icon to delete that license from this system.

@Andy Heinzer : So as mentioned in the last sentence- when you remove Jira core license - there is a check box " Remove Jira Configuration also" - Can you please help me understand what will be the impact if you keep it selected or unselect?

I believe this has to do with the license role groups.  When you remove a license like this, you could also remove that group that granted application access from license role tables.  Only if you planned to license Core again in the future would it potentially be helpful to keep that data in your setup.  In that sense, applying a new Jira Core license again in the future could immediately grant access to those users that still have the jira-core-users group membership.

Removing that data doesn't remove users from groups.  But applying a Core license again in the future doesn't then presume to use the default application access group called jira-core-users. Instead as an admin you would need to select which specific group grants application access to Core.  This is mentioned when removing a Software license in https://confluence.atlassian.com/migration/jira-7/how-to-move-from-jira-software-to-jira-core

The same concept applies to a Jira Core license here.

I just removed Jira core after purchasing licenses for Jira Software and Service Desk like you described and REMOVED configuration. As it seems that worked fine and everything is still up and running. We didn't use Jira Core at all (0 Users).

"Uninstalling core" would stop your service desk working.  Service Desk is not a separate service, it's a set of functions that are added to Core and runs on it.

As you have only Service Desk licences, your users have to be Agents to use the the service desk projects.  Your non-agent users will be "customers" - able to raise requests, but not able to use the rest of Jira.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- : Is the above statement still true? Asking this as I was reading on Atlassian documents and found that JIRA SD or JIRA Software is a standalone product now and you do not need to have Jira core as a platform.

Yes, absolutely.

They are not stand-alone products, they run on top of core.  You can get installers that bundle Core and Software or Core and Service Desk, but they won't work without Core.

You can also download Software and Service Desk as .obr files - but they're utterly useless alone, as they have to be installed into a Core install to do anything!

But, you don't need to have any (separate) Core users at all.  The licences for Software and Service Desk usage provide access for their users.
