How to link an existing Project to a "Project Template"

Hi,

I'm creating new projects based in one template, in order to have only one place to change.

Case:

I need to reuse an existim project, and this was not created based the template, so they are not connected. Chaging the template will not change this one.

It is possible to link the old jira project, created before the template to the current template?

When you create a new project, where it first asks you what kind of project, there is an option "create with shared configuration" 

If you do that then your new project will share the same configuration elements as the project you specify,

If you need to do this after the fact, you can just change all the elements in the new project to be the same as the old(template) one. ie pick the same:

• issue type schema
• Workflow Scheme
• Issue type screen scheme
• Field configuration scheme
• priority scheme
• permission scheme
• notification scheme

Once you make all of these the same in the new project as you currently have set in the old (or template) project, make sure you clean up all the old artifacts that were left behind.

It's worth a look at what a template is.  Atlassian (unusually) used the word correctly and usefully here.  A template is something you use to create an object of a known shape that you may then modify to fit other shapes. 

Templates define new objects at creation.  Nothing else.  If you change a template, it's going to give you differently shaped new objects when you use the edited template to create new objects, but it does not (and absolutely should not) change the old objects you created with it
