Our current issue hierarchy is set to default
Epic>story>sub-task
I would like to change such that I can have Epic linked under another Epic, is it possible?
Hi @Jesal Taneja,
No, that is not possible, at least not without marketplace apps. The best you can do to express a relationship between 2 epics, is by linking them (as linked issues). There are marketplace apps out there that may then help you visualise these links in a hierarchy.
On a side note, if you think this is going to be a scenario you will be repeating a lot, you may consider defining another issue type that you can then properly implement as a parent for your Epics. You would still need to upgrade to a premium plan or revert to a marketplace app to make it work, but you would at least use a consistent approach to defining parent-child relationships throughout your instance.
Hope this helps!
If you are on Jira premium, you can create hierarchy levels above Epic. However on other Jira version, you can use issue links to create your own hierarchy at any level. If you would like to try out a mktplace app, please take a look at an add-one have developed for the same use case.
The app shows your issues , their subtasks and the linked issues as well in a simple and easy to use tree view, with progress at each parent level. In the example below we have created Epic below Epic.

Hi Jesal,
You will need a Premium subscription to be able to add another layer to the hierarchy. And then the level will need to be a different name. You can have something like Epic > Feature > Story > Sub-task or Initiative > Epic > Story > Sub-task.
