How can I ensure that fields in linked issues are pre-filled automatically in Jira?

Why does creating a linked issue in one of my Jira project boards automatically pre-fill and copy all issue fields, while this behaviour is not observed in my other boards? In the other boards, I have to manually rewrite all the information in the newly created linked issues. How can I enable this pre-fill feature across all my boards?Screenshot 2024-02-28 at 9.24.06 AM.pngScreenshot 2024-02-28 at 9.24.33 AM.png

I have the same issue but only from Monday Dev 16th 2024.

I used to have the behavior of fields automatically copied on a Business/Work Management project. It was working perfectly well and was very convenient.

Since the 16th, it doesn't work anymore and my users have to fill everything manually which is very annoying and error prone.

How to troubleshoot this? How to control this behavior? What is enabling it?

Trudy Claspill so it doesn't match the behavior you're describing actually

@Ibrahim Ennafaa

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

My testing was done 10 months ago. Atlassian releases changes to the Jira Cloud application every week. There could've been a change to the system that makes my February reply no longer apply.

However, I just re-tried the exact same scenarios in my environment and it operates the exact way that I previously described.

When I start from an issue in a Service Management project and click the Create Linked Issue there, then I get the Create Linked Issue dialog with fields filled in.

When I start from an issue in a Software or Business/Work Management project and click the Create Linked Issue there, then I get the Create Issue dialog with no fields filled in.

The changes Atlassian release to Jira Cloud instances don't go to all Jira Cloud instances simultaneously. If you previously had different behaviour than I have or are having different behaviour now they you had before Dec. 16, your instance may have received an update that I have not yet received.

I see that you found and commented on an Article posted by an Atlassian Team Member in October that is on this same topic and that article indicates the lack of copying data from the source issue in Business and Software projects is now the expected functionality. The article includes a link to the change request asking for that copying functionality to be restored.

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-74100

There is nothing more that  can be done about the change to the system by community members. It now resides with Atlassian to change the functionality.

Thank you @Trudy Claspill !

Yes I upvoted and commented that feature request.

BUT, the behavior I'm describing (the one that got disabled by this new feature, which most likely got deployed to our instance on Dec 16th) was the one enabled on our instances for at least a year and many workflows were built around the assumption it was a native functionality of JIRA Cloud. Therefore, from our POV it is a regression (even though that behavior might had been an unexpected one). That's why I think it would be fair to disable the new feature on our instance while waiting for a resolution about the extra feature request (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-74100)

That being said I understand it is now out of your hands. One question though: In your experience, do you know if Atlassian has the capacity to disable a specific feature for an instance as an exception? Have they done that in the past?

Hello @Ibrahim Ennafaa

Sometimes Atlassian has been able to disable things like this.

Your administrators would need to open a support case directly with Atlassian to ask about that.

Hello @Sunny Tremblay

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Doing some experimenting in my own instance I see that:

When I start from an issue in a Service Management project and click the Create Linked Issue there, then I get the Create Linked Issue dialog with fields filled in.

When I start from an issue in a Software or Business/Work Management project and click the Create Linked Issue there, then I get the Create Issue dialog with no fields filled in.

Does that match your situation?
