Epic tickets do not show up in Sprint Backlog, but my filter (board config) set to capture it

Jackie Story November 3, 2023

I know it's not standard practice, but my team used an Epic ticket type to document work. This ticket though, does not show up in my sprint backlog as assigned work; does Jira filter out Epic tickets from ever showing in a sprint backlog?
See screenshots below of my issue -

Thanks for the help!

Hello @Jackie Story

Yes, for a scrum board Jira is designed to not show Epics within the issue list of the Backlog. Epics are typically of such a scope that they cannot be completed within the time box of a sprint and therefore would not typically be assigned to a sprint, so there would be no need to show them in the list of issues that can be assigned to a sprint.

That's what I thought; thanks so much for confirming!
