Done tickets are not considered done?

Anu Leponiemi October 2, 2023

I'm working with a Jira Cloud project. We use scrum and have a backlog in use. We have statuses Done, Duplicate and Closed, which are all of type "Done" (green ones in the workflow setup view).

For some reason, these Done tickets don't disappear from the backlog view and sprint, but they stay there sprint after sprint.

What should I do to make the Done tickets disappear?

The resolution and status category are not relevant to sprint completion.  All that matters is whether the issue is in the last column on the board.  The status mapping into the column matters of course, as that's how columns break up your issues.

Are your issues in the last column of the board when you close the sprint?  If they're moving to the next sprint, then I would expect them not to be in the last column.

The status Done isn't the problem, the ticket needs to have the field "Resolution" set. Edit Workflow, click on arrow going to Done, Post Functions. You probably don't see in the list "The Resolution of the issue will be set to Done". In this case, add one with link on the left "Add post function", "Update issue field", on the field "Resolution", with the value "Done".

I'm afraid this is completely wrong for Scrum boards, as the original question was about.

Resolution is the way Jira Core/Business/Work-management, and Jira Service Management projects work, when not using a Software board, but the question was about a Scrum board, where resolution is irrelevant - the Software boards look only at the last column to see what is "done"

@Nicolas Courvoisier , thanks for your answer! That was my understanding as well, but for these new Scrum projects of the Cloud Jira it seems to work differently. @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- , I'm putting my hope to this solution. I changed my board to have all the "green" statuses in the last of the columns. I can see the results in a couple of weeks, when closing the sprint - then I'll accept the answer, if it worked for me! Thank you both already :)

Ok sorry in this case, I thought my project was a Scrum one when I checked, maybe not. Fingers crossed for the other solution :)

Hello, @Anu Leponiemi .  That lines up with my first guess.  Are you setting the Resolution field (either manually through transition screen or automatically through post-function)?

Check the discussion of the other answer! I don't have straight access to Resolution column at all, but it seems it's about the columns of the scrum board.
