Datacenter - Change Project Type

Question

Can anybody point me to documentation or resources that details the impact of changing a project from Business to Software? We're migrating to Cloud soon and I want to migrate all of our Business projects with boards to Software to avoid issues, but I can't find anything documenting what changes in our current environment.

Impact from Jira Core (Business) to Jira Software should be minimal since you are going from the type with the least features up a more specific one. We had a use case ourselves the other way around and that was more impactfull.

I feel like the only way to be sure is to just do it on a test environment and evaluate the changes.

Hi Mathew,

The initial things to be concerned about are the items that are unique to projects. Things like components, fixed versions/releases, custom fields with context for the source project. Make sure you create those same items in the new target project in advance - with the exact same names. For Custom Fields, you just need to add the new project to the context after you create the project.

Then just take a couple of issues that you feel like are your most complex issues. Maybe even clone them. Then move the cloned issue to the new project to see what happens and what the impacts are, or if it glides along swimmingly.
