Constructing a weighted formula in Jira Product Discovery based on revenue numbers

Ylan Muller September 21, 2023

I need help thinking through something.

We are getting started in Jira Product Discovery and plan on having users linking Salesforce opportunities as Insights and capturing the Impact score for each linked opportunity. We want to then create a custom field that we can use as a data point for prioritization using a rollup of the max revenue affected by an issue, weighted by the impact score.

I'm having trouble understanding the best way to construct this formula when looking at the documentation (https://support.atlassian.com/jira-product-discovery/docs/expression-based-formulas/). Would it be a weighted formula where the rollup on the revenue is a positive input with the Insights impact score as a negative input?

Curious how others have built this uot!

Hi @Ylan Muller

As you can read in that documentation page, the custom field formulas are helpful and a bit limited in the math operations supported.  I expect other capabilities will be added over time for those operations.

If what you want to calculate cannot be done with custom formulas it is likely it can be done with an automation for Jira rule in the JPD project.  And if you share your formula basics, the community can advise how that might be implemented.

Or, you can try experimenting with automation rules for your fields.  To get you started on creating your rule, please refer to these documentation and example sources:

Kind regards,
Bill

Sorry for missing this reply! I think the automation rules might be what we end up doing. I will play with that.
