Any update on implementing the Sort generator into Structure Cloud ?  We really need this because a basic sort in the Insert JQL works only for the main elements that are added through the Insert, but the sort is not applied to any elements added through Extend generators.

Thank you but it does not work if you use a JQL insert for your structure. What is the release date to allow that to happen?

Hello @Domenic Wiley ,

You are very welcome.  The Sort Generator is different than an Insert Generator.  It needs to be added separately.

The document I linked in my previous response describes how to add the new generator.

If you have already taken the steps described, and it is not working for you, please contact our support team directly.  We will be happy to identify and resolve the issue.  We can be reached via email support@almworks.com or through our customer portal support.almworks.com.

Best,
David

Hi Johan,

Thanks for your inquiry and for trying Structure Cloud.

The message you received is due to the fact that you are using the Automation feature. When you Insert issues in your structure automatically with the Search Inserter JQL, it displays the results the the same way you would see them in Jira using the same Query. Therefore, you generally cannot change the order of issues when your structure is being built dynamically.

For now, you can add your Initiatives into your structure manually instead of using the Search Inserter Generator. You can do so by clicking on the 'Add existing items' (magnifying glass icon) button next to the 'Folder' button:

https://wiki.almworks.com/x/m4_9Aw

Structure Cloud is still being actively developed and we are currently working on implementing the Sorter Generator, which will allow more flexibility with how inserted issues can be rearranged, including by Rank.

Please feel free to email support@almworks.com if you'd like to be notified when the feature becomes available.

Best Regards,

Vlad

Hi Vlad. Thanks for your reply!

@Vlad[ALM Works]  Do you have any timframe or estimate of when it will be avaliable for Cloud?

Do you recon that a viabble workaroud is to introduce a custom field to Initiatives with a prionumer and ad sort ASC to JQL? Any other suggestions?

Hi Johan,

Thanks for the follow up. Apologies for the delayed response.

We don't have a date we can communicate right now unfortunately but you can follow our Structure Cloud Roadmap here:

https://wiki.almworks.com/x/rQMUB

Yes, a JQL with sorting by the desired Field in Ascending or Descending order will display it in that way but you won't be able to manually reorder. The only other way right now is to place the issues manually into the structure and then you will be able to move them around as desired.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Best Regards,

Vlad

I like to add that with the enhancement, it should has the same view as in Jira.  The use case here is we ordered our sub-task in certain way in Jira, not serially by issue key number.  So we like to see the same order in Structure, that we set in Jira, which is not available now.

Thank you for your input, Louis. Do you mind sharing some more details about how you are ordering your sub-tasks in Jira and why?

This will help us implement the feature in a way that is useful to a lot of our users.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Vlad

Hi Vlad,

I believe it is the same for Server Version too. I have created Generators to add the data dynamically but unable to sort issues inside the hierarchy.

Is this understanding is correct ?

Thanks,

Vijay

Hello Vijay,

On Structure for Server/Data Center, the reordering of issues that are added by generators can be done using Sort Automation. The sorting order can either be set automatically and be based on a certain Jira field - issues will be listed according to their field's values, - or you can reorder them manually by using the Manual Reordering... Sort generator. It allows to drag and drop issues in your structure within one hierarchy level how you want.

I hope this helps. If you need further assistance with reordering issues in your structures, please feel free to contact us at support.almworks.com and we'll look into your use-case deeper and share more recommendations.

To be able to reorder issues, you need to add a Sort generator, the Sort by Rank generator in your case. To add it please do the following: click Automation | + (right next to it) | Sort | Rank and click Apply. Once the Sort generator is added, issues in your structure will be ordered according to their Ranks and you will also be able to reorder them manually(Rank will be updated as a result).

Sorry, didn't see the edited version of your comment. If the Sort generator is already added, it should be possible to reorder issues. It's hard to say what can be the reason for it not working - it can be a configuration problem or something else.

To avoid sharing any sensitive data here, can you please create a support request on our Service Desk portal at support.almworks.com ? Please attach the screenshot of your structure in full and the screenshot of the Sort by Rank generator(you can double click on it to show its configuration).

We will be back with you shortly and provide proper support.

I just experienced the same issue of not being able to adjust issues vertically.  Upon removing and re-adding the Sort (by Rank) generator, I can now move issues vertically as expected.

I think the problem originated from when the structure was originally created.

The structure was originally created by insert issues from a board where the board had filtering of order by priority then rank.  A Sort (by Rank) generator was added.

Since then, the structure insert issues has been modified to be a different board with filter of solely order by rank.  The board filter and sort generator now matched but vertical moving didn't work until I removed the sort generator and re-added it.

With all that said, I am unsure if the original Sort (by Rank) generator had the "Allow changes via Structure" checked.

Hope this explanation is makes sense :)

Hello Dale,

Apologies for the late answer. Sorting by Priority on a board in addition to sorting by Rank shouldn't affect the ability to change Rank from a structure by the Rank sorter. It is possible that the 'Allow changes via Structure' option was disabled in your sorter and when you re-added the sorter, the option became enabled, making updating the Rank possible again.

But in case you face this issue again, please feel free to reach out to us via support.almworks.com and we'll gladly look into it deeper. Also please don't hesitate to contact us directly if you need help with anything else.

Hello Stepan,

I have the same situation like Dale, my filter query is like this:

project = ET247 ORDER BY priority DESC, Rank ASC

and now I can't move issues vertically anymore, e.g. in the Backlog Tab from the Backlog to the column above. Is this possible?

The effort to make Structure top-level items movable appears to have started in 2020 - what is the status of this feature?
