Hi @Tata Tatkhashvili,

While I am not 100% sure if I understand correctly what you are trying to do - issues in Jira always have a status. That status is determined by the issue type's workflow and is normally the first status in the workflow.

If you want another (initial) status than to do, what you would normally do would be to update the workflow for your issue type, and add a different status before to do. That way, the initial status becomes a different one.

If you work in company managed projects, you may additionally need to update the way statuses are mapped to your board columns (via board settings > columns), as this will not update automatically after you change the workflow.

Hope this helps!

Hi Walter

thank you for your feedback.

When I create tasks in backlog it automatically grants status "to do". Can I make another status by default?

As I tried to explain, the default status an issue gets is the initial status in your workflow. If you look at that workflow, you will see a sort of grey circle indicating the start of the workflow and a line going from that circle towards to do.

If you want a different initial status (before or instead of to do), you'll need to update your workflow by adding a different initial status and reconnecting that line to the new status.

If you want to bypass the to do status altogether, you can set up an automation that progresses your issues automatically after they are created into a different status. That would be somewhat strange behaviour, so the above option seems to make more sense to me.

A final option might be to simply turn off your backlog feature. That is only possible if you are in a team managed project (you can disable the feature in project settings > features > backlog) or in a company managed kanban board (remove the to do status in your board settings from the backlog column).

Hi @Tata Tatkhashvili

If by "create tasks without that status" you mean setting a different status from the beginning, you can enable the corresponding feature:

  1. Click on the cog icon in the top right
  2. Navigate to "System" and "General configuration"
  3. Choose "Edit Settings" on the top right
  4. Set the setting "Status" in the section "Options" to "ON"

This way, you'll be able to set a different status directly on the create issue screen.

You can find more information on this feature here.

If you want to have a different initial status without choosing it every time, you have to modify the workflow as @Walter Buggenhout already explained.

Hope this helps.
