Automation: Create subtask if parent issue transitioned

Nina Schuessler January 10, 2023

Greetings beloved community,

hope you're all well and someone can help me figure out my dilemma lolz.

What I'm trying to achieve is that when a parent task moves from one status to another (transition) that it then creates a subtask for that parent task. Tried a bunch of rules tho sadly, I'm utterly failing.

Attached is my latest scenario. Could someone please point me in the right direction? It might also that subtasks can only be created if a new task is created?

I'll be forever grateful.

Thanks a ton!

Hi @Nina Schuessler ,

you don't actually need the branch, you can just add the Create subtask below the condition.

However, this should work. What does the audit log of the rule tell you?

Probably some condition to create the subtask will not be fulfilled.

  •  Do you have the subtask issuetype in your project?
  • Do you have field configs / validators that require fields to be filled in?
  • Does the automation user still have the necessary permissions?

Provide more info about the audit log and the config of the subtask creation if you still cannot find the reason please.

Hope this helps,

- Tessa
