How to configure an SMTP server on JIRA?

I have installed jira on offline system.

I want to send mails and notifications which can be only possible with smtp server on localhost.I have to configure like google server so can you suggest which smtp server is best and compatible with jira for this purpose.

The easiest option is usually to stick postfix on the local machine.  There are others which work just as well, but postfix is the first one most of us reach for.
